I can't tell you how many times I had a client come into my office to have their taxes prepared and they did not track their itemized deductions enough to get the tax break they wanted. When my client is on the office I can tell them what to do, what to record, how to record it and what they needed to bring me. As soon as they left the office it was like POOF everything I said was gone. A few of my clients listened to me and had great results, I just could not understand why it was so hard for so many people. I would give them envelopes, and forms to keep their deductions recorded but still nothing. I got very frustrated because that is what my business is about, helping people reduce their tax liability. It was not enough to repeatedly tell them, I had to do more. I tried newsletters, but who wants to read about taxes all year long? After a while I came up with the idea of the workbook. I will add to the tips and tricks pages through out the year, to keep you informed of changes. I also offer my advice in my workbooks.
